Reason number one, a perfectly charming New England facade.
On my recent trip to Newport, Rhode Island I had the pleasure of staying at Hotel Viking. I've always wanted to take a trip north in early fall to the New England area but it was just one of those things that kept getting pushed aside for the Caribbean or Europe. I'll share more about the trip in its entirety soon but let's talk about where to stay.
The Viking is a Newport mainstay as it was originally created for the guests of the many mansions on and around Bellevue Avenue. It was a great choice! Here are 5 reasons why Hotel Viking is a perfect stay. I mentioned the charming facade above - it gets even better!
2. I wanted to stay somewhere that was a departure from my normal modern designer hotel preference and go full in on charm. The Kingscote suite feels more like a beautiful stay at one of the many mansions rather than a hotel. From the lovely (and chocolatey) welcome, the incredible size of the room to to the ultra comfy bed and seating area, this room was perfect.
2. It's a midsize hotel, not a tiny inn and not an overwhelming property. You get all of the personalized attention from the wonderfully friendly staff and the amenities of a larger hotel. The SpaFjor for example, had a pretty large menu of services from facials to massages, body indulgences (Bamboo Ginseng Rub anyone?) and Global Rituals - one of which includes volcanic earth clay. I decided on the Royal Honey Massage which as basically part sticky magic and resulted in my barely being able to get up after as I was so relaxed. It goes from a massage with honey to being swaddled in a honeycomb to a facial massage that inadvertently relieved an on-going sinus headache. Yay.
Must do breakfast in bed. Like, must!
5. Tea Time is a big tradition at Hotel Viking and one in which I was happy to partake! Note, best scones of my entire life, made in-house of course. Second note, you can sip tea and stare out of these gorgeous windows all afternoon.
