My Modern Master Bedroom Redesign

minimal bedroom decor
When I moved into this apartment, the only room that fell by the wayside was my bedroom. I threw all of my old furniture in and kept putting off actually taking the time to make it the kind of room I'd be elated to fall asleep and wake up in.

Before the redesign, the only thing I loved about my bedroom was the huge wall of windows and my mattress and boxspring that I purchased a few years back when I realized there was room for a king size bed. My former dressers where hand me downs from an estate sale and there were a couple of oversized chrome nightstands.

I've always had a love for home decor and design. In the past I've felt confident to some degree about picking out individual items to suit my taste but much like getting dressed, designing a room is a muscle that you kind of need to flex to really understand how to get it right. The same principles of a well put together outfit apply really; color palette, textiles/fabrics, proportions...

This year I've traveled more consecutively than I have in ages and I knew that when I did finally come home, I wanted my bedroom (not just my bed) to be something I looked forward to; a calming place that inspired relaxation and sleep! My friends at Lowes gave me a head start in getting my redesign together. First thing, the paint! I knew I wanted bright white walls so I went with the Valspar Reserve Eggshell in Ultra White. It was also important to me to change my horrendous light fixture and to add a ceiling fan.

Honestly, I was afraid to consider a ceiling fan at first because the thought of a giant ornate figure above me sent me into a panic. But, there are so many modern options around now and the idea of being less wasteful and not needing the air conditioner when all you want is a breeze won me over.

Dots made by me! Don't be afraid to make some of the art you'd like to feature. Just throw it in a frame and voila'.

Sheepskin rug options here and here

I repurposed the faux sheepskin run that I had in my home office and this might have been the best idea I've ever had. Waking up and placing your feet down on this fuzzy goodness is a heck of a way to start the day. It's oh so cozy!

This swaddle worthy throw blanket is also repurposed from a chair in my living room. I got it eons ago from a former client Linda Loudermilk who did eco friendly luxury items both fashion and home. I didn't much use it in the living room and here, it adds the perfect pop of color in my very neutral room.

I chose a closet organization system from Lowes, it changed the game! | The fringy basket houses my sweaters

So, of course I knew that Lowes has great options for things like paint, all of the hardware-ish items I'd need (rollers, light switch covers etc.) but this closet install changed my life. I'm pretty lucky to have really large closets in my apt. However, the one bar across is a total waste of space. This set up allows me to have so much more in the closet while it looks and feels like so much less! The closet in my bedroom houses all of my fall clothing.

In addition to the closet, I also got this lovely dresser and Moroccan rug from Lowes. Though this dresser in expensive, I was able to elevate the look by adding new dresser pulls. Always add new pulls! I scored these round gold pulls from CB2 (obsessed!). Other favorites in the room are my enormous round mirror and this little gold elephant that I found at Home Goods.

The gold mirrored side table was re-purposed from my living room and works wonderfully as a night stand. It's easy to clutter surfaces quickly so my approach to keep it simple with things you really like looking at. For me, it's gold accents!

My last favorite (have I said everything is my favorite) but this one truly is...all of the greens and plants I picked up from Lowes just add so much life. I've also been reading up on the benefit of certain plants in your home for but wellness and relaxation. I'll definitely be adding more!

I hope you enjoyed this post! Lots more on the home decor and design front coming this fall.
